Easter blooms with hope…
This Easter season, I will share seven of my favorite, life-giving, “words” (passages) from the Bible. Each has been a tremendous resource in not only my pastoral ministry but also in my personal faith journey. These ancient words embody hope and speak love into the relationship that we have with God, with others, and with the whole of creation.
The number seven plays an important role in scripture. Seven was the number that the Old Testament Priestly writer used to frame the first of the Bible’s creation stories; from nothing, God brings life to life over a course of seven days. On the seventh day, there is a time of holy rest known as the Sabbath. Every seven days, the Sabbath provides an invitation to participate in a time of renewal.
Since a week has a cycle of seven days, there is a sense of wholeness connected with the number seven. Easter is the greatest of all the Christian festivals and is celebrated for a week of weeks (seven weeks of seven days.)
For seven weeks, Seven Words of Life, will provide prayers, Inspirational Images, and a few questions to ponder. There will be fifty devotions in all; one for each day of the Easter season, which begins this year on April 17.
